Amman: Participants in the upcoming AFC U-19 Championship 2012, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, shared the spoils as they drew 1-1 in their Arab U-20 Championship 2012 opening match at the Amman International Stadium, Jordan, on Wednesday.
The Saudis and Jordan are exactly head to head in Group A but below leaders Sudan who clinched their first three points over Kuwait in a 3-2 tie also on Wednesday.
Seven AFC member associations and five members of the Confederation of African Football are competing in the two-week competition hosted by Jordan.
Saudi Arabia were drawn into Group D with Australia, Syria, and Qatar while Jordan have DPR Korea, Uzbekistan and Vietnam as rivals in Group C of the AFC U-19 Championship whose group stage will be held on November 3-8.
The top two teams from each of the four groups (eight teams in total) will qualify for the quarter-finals (November 11) and the four winners of the quarter-finals will play in the semi-finals (November 14) and the winners advance to the final (November 17).
The top four teams of the U-19 championship will qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2013 to be held in Turkey.
