Manama: Midfielder Cheung Wai Ki scored twice including a late winner as Hong Kong edged Kyrgyzstan 2-1 in their 2014 AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifying opener on Wednesday.
In an evenly-fought contest at the National Stadium in the Bahrain capital, the two sides appeared to be heading into the interval locked at 0-0 until Cheung put Hong Kong one up with four minutes of the first-half remaining.
Svetlana Tynkova drew Kyrgyzstan level just before the hour mark but Hong Kong would emerge with all three points thanks to Cheung’s second of the match four minutes from full time.
