West Bank: Chinese Taipei took a step closer to the 2014 AFC Women’s Asian Cup with a hard-fought 2-1 win over India, a result which ended the South Asians’ chances of qualification to next year’s finals.
After losing 2-0 to Myanmar in their qualifying Group D opener, India needed a win to get their campaign back on track but the back-to-back South Asian Games gold medallists found themselves on the back foot in Thursday’s match at the Faisal Al Huseni Stadium when midfielder Yu Hsiu-chin put Chinese Taipei 1-0 up with three minutes of the first-half left to play.
Sasmita Malik drew India level nine minutes into the second half but it was the three-time continental champions that were to have the final say when Lai Li-chin scored the winning gol with eight minutes left to play.
