Manama: Vietnam outlined their status as Group C favourites with an emphatic 12-0 victory over Kyrgyzstan in their second 2014 AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifying match on Friday.
Vietnam, who have participated in every AFC Women’s Asian Cup finals since 1999, began their quest to reach the next edition of the flagship tournament in electrifying form, defeating Group C hosts Bahrain 8-0 on Wednesday in what was the first ever qualifying match for the Gulf Kingdom.
And their ten goals against Kyrgyzstan sends a clear message to their final round opponents Hong Kong, who also made it two wins out of two by following up their 2-1 win over the Central Asians with a 3-1 defeat of Bahrain in Friday’s earlier match at the National Stadium.
Vietnam made an explosive start to their second fixture in Manama as Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet opened the scoring after just three minutes with the first of her hat-trick.
Her second came in the 12th minute, six minutes after defender Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh had made it 2-0, while her third was scored in the 22nd minute following a 14th minute effort from Nguyen Thi Xuyen.
Just 60 seconds after Nguyet completed the treble Nguyen Thi Hoa made it 6-0 to Vietnam, who took a seven-goal advantage into the second half courtesy of a 34th minute strike from Nguyen Thi Muon, who scored a hat-trick in the 8-0 win over Bahrain.
Nguyen Thi Kim Tien’s goal five minutes after the restart ensured Vietnam matched Wednesday’s scoreline and there was ample time to add more to their tally with Hoa bagging her brace in the 71st minute to take Vietnam into double figures after Tran Thi Kim Tien had made it 9-0 in the 65th minute. Substitute Huynh Nhu struck in the 81st and 89th minutes to cap the emphatic win.
