Round 2 - Group C: China PR 0-3 Korea Republic

Shenzhen: Son Heung-min bagged a brace as Korea Republic made it two wins from two in Group C of the Preliminary Joint Qualification – Round 2 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ following a 3-0 victory over China PR on Tuesday.

The visitors dominated the first-half proceedings at Shenzhen Universiade Sports Centre and went into the break two goals up after Son opened the scoring from the spot in the 11th minute and then doubled his side’s advantage shortly before the interval.

Korea remained on top after the restart but had to wait until the 87th minute for their third and final goal with Jung Seung-hyun’s header wrapping up a comfortable victory as the Taeguk Warriors opened up a three-point lead at the top of the standings.

Round 2 - MD2: Results & Reports

Kuala Lumpur: Matchday Two of the Preliminary Joint Qualification - Round 2 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ concluded on Tuesday with another round of exciting action across the continent.

Korea Republic, seeking to qualify for an 11th consecutive FIFA World Cup, registered a crucial win by defeating China PR away while there were also victories for Australia, Japan, Saudi Arabia and Qatar while Islamic Republic of Iran had to settle for draw with Uzbekistan. 
 
The qualifiers will return in March 2024, with the nine group winners and their respective runners-up to advance to the third round of FIFA World Cup qualifying, and at the same time seal their places at the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027.

Skorza to leave Urawa

Saitama: Urawa Red Diamonds have announced that head coach Maciej Skorza will leave the club at the end of the current season, less than a year after leading the J1 League side to their third AFC Champions League title.

Skorza was appointed ahead of the current season and steered Urawa to a 2-1 aggregate victory over Al Hilal from Saudi Arabia over two legs in the final in May having replaced Spain’s Ricardo Rodriguez at the helm.
