RFU end valiant Vietnam's FIFA Futsal World Cup campaign
Vilnius: Vietnam gave it their best but Russian Football Union (RFU) were in their element as the European side advanced to the FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2021 quarter-finals with a 3-2 win in their Round of 16 tie at the Vilnius Arena on Wednesday.
Robinho and Ivan Chishkala opened the scoring for RFU with Nguyen Dac Huy pulling one back for Vietnam going into the break before Chishkala added the third goal to end the Southeast Asian side's resistance.
IR Iran push Argentina to the edge in FIFA Futsal World Cup showdown
Vilnius: Islamic Republic of Iran finished second in Group F of the FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2021 after a narrow 2-1 defeat to defending champions Argentina on Monday.
The 12-time Asian champions, who finished third in the 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup, will face regional rivals Uzbekistan in the Round of 16.
Having already booked their spots in the knockout stage, both teams opted for a cautious approach in their battle for top spot at the Vilnius Arena with IR Iran’s Saeid Ahmad Abbasi the first to test Argentine goalkeeper Lucas Farach in the second minute.
Japan through to FIFA Futsal World Cup knockout stage despite defeat to Paraguay
Vilnius: Japan were denied second place by a resilient Paraguay but the East Asian side advanced to the FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2021 knockout stage despite suffering a 2-1 defeat to the South Americans in their final Group E match at the Vilnius Arena on Monday.
Japan's superior goal difference meant they finished as one of the best four third-placed teams with Spain topping the group and Paraguay finishing second.
The three-time Asian champions will play five-time FIFA Futsal World Cup winners Brazil in the Round of 16.
Vietnam through to FIFA Futsal World Cup knockout stage after draw with Czech Republic
Kaunas: Vietnam played to a 1-1 draw with Czech Republic in their final Group D match of the FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2021 at the Kaunas Arena on Sunday.
The result meant Vietnam - with four points - finished third in the group but advanced to the Round of 16 as one of the best third-placed finishers. Brazil won the group with nine points with Czech Republic second.
