Suwon: Korea Republic suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to England on Friday to finish second in Group A at the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
After a lively first half with chances for both sides that ended goalless, the breakthrough in Suwon finally came in the 56th minute when Jonjoe Kenny ran down the right flank after a neat exchange of passing and found an onrushing Kieran Dowell, wthho slotted the ball in from 11 metres out.
Korea Republic coach Shin Tae-young opted to rest stars Lee Seung-woo and Paik Seung-ho, but they each came off the bench to try and help get at least a point for the hosts.
However, it was England who continued to create chances, with Ademola Lookman's effort off the post in the 72nd minute the closest.
England held on to finish top of the group, while hosts Korea Republic took second spot as both sides wait to find out their Round of 16 opponents.
