Ras Al Khaimah: Emirates have secured the services of Lebanon striker Hassan Maatouk who joins the UAE Pro League club in their push to avoid relegation and preserve their top flight status.
Maatouk, who has scored four times during Lebanon’s run to the decisive phase of Brazil 2014 qualifiers, joins the 2010 UAE President’s Cup and Super Cup winners from Beirut side Al Ahed, having spent last season in the UAE on loan at Ajman, where he found the net eight times.
With the UAE Pro League expanding to 14 teams Emirates are involved in a four-team play-off tournament with bottom of the table Sharjah and Al Shaab and Al Dhafra, who finished in the third and fourth in the first division respectively, to decide the two additional teams in next season’s UPL.
Lebanon are next in World Cup qualifying action on September 11 when they face Iran in their fourth Group A fixture, with the Cedars struggling at the foot of the table with just one point from their first three final round games.
