Tokyo: Japanese international midfielder Shinji Kagawa is on his way to Old Trafford after English Premiership side Manchester United confirmed that the club ‘reached an agreement’ with Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday.
After having a successful season at Dortmund where he won the league and the cup double, Kagawa was inspirational in Japan’s 3-0 home win over Oman on Sunday in the final round of qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals. He set up the second goal for the Blue Samurai.
"Manchester United is delighted to announce that it has agreed terms with both Borussia Dortmund and Shinji Kagawa for his transfer to the club," said the United’s statement.
The statement also said that the details of the deal will be announced later as it is believed that a fee of around 12 million pound has been agreed with the German giants with the possibility of increasing up to 17 million pounds depending on the appearances and success with the star midfielder who cost a meagre sum of 350,000 Euros two years ago when he joined the Ruhr club from Cerezo Osaka.
Kagawa, who did not play in the FIFA World Cup 2010, won AFC Asian Cup 2011 title with his brace against Qatar in the quarter-final being the highlight of the tournament.
The 23-year old is expected to feature in Japan’s World Cup qualifying tie against Jordan on Friday.
