Vientiane: China eased through to the third round of the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers after a 6-1 defeat of Laos on Thursday saw Gao Hongbo's side advance with an 13-3 aggregate win.
China went into the match at the National Sports Complex Stadium in the Laos capital with a seemingly insurmountable 7-2 lead following their first-leg victory in Kunming.
But there was to be no let up from the 2004 AFC Asian Cup runners-up as Qu Bo opened the scoring 24 minutes into the second leg before Yu Hanchao added a second 12 minutes later to put China 2-0 up at half-time.
Visay Phaphouvanin, scorer of Laos' second in China, gave the home fans a glimmer of hope that they might at least get a positive result in the second leg when he pulled a goal back two minutes after the restart.
But after Deng Zhouoxiang had restored China's two-goal lead in the 67th minute - taking the East Asians' aggregate tally into double figures in the process - Laos began to run out of steam.
Deng made it 4-1 on the night in the 83rd minute before Yu followed the 22-year-old Shandong Luneng midfielder's example and netted his brace five minutes later.
But the scoring hadn't finished there as Yang Xu, who scored a second-half hat-trick in the first leg, sealed the 6-1 victory two minutes into stoppage-time.
