A dynamic forward who can play at the number of attacking positions, Korea Republic forward Son Heung-min has emerged as an influential figure in the ranks of the Taeguk Warriors.
Injury and club commitments limited Son’s national team appearances in the early stage of Korea’s World Cup qualifying campaign but showed his quality with a strong showing in 2013, when he scored the winner in the Brazil 2014 qualifier against Qatar and in subsequent friendlies against Haiti (twice), Mali and Greece.
Son joined the youth academy of Hamburg at the age of 16 and after scoring 20 times in 73 matches for the senior side Bundesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen paid a club record 10 million Euros to bring the Korean star to the BayArena.
The 2013 KFA (Korea Football Association) Footballer of Year can be a game changer and with Korea facing European sides Russia and Belgium, Son’s experience of playing in Bundesliga and in the UEFA Champions League will be beneficial for coach Hong Myung-bo in Brazil.
