Valencia: AFC Asian Cup winner Mathew Ryan made an impressive debut for Valencia on Saturday as he helped his new side to a 1-0 win over PSV Eindhoven.
The Australia international, who was named the Asian Cup’s best goalkeeper when the Socceroos landed the continental prize on home soil in January, made a solid first appearance for his new employers with excellent saves from PSV’s Luuk De Jong and Davy Propper the undoubted highlights during a game won by Paco Alcacer’s early strike.
Ryan penned a six-year deal with Valencia on Monday following a high profile move from Belgium’s Club Brugge.
The former Central Coast Mariners custodian recently featured for Australia as they began their joint qualification campaign for the 2018 FIFA World Cup and 2019 AFC Asian Cup with a 2-1 Group B win over Kyrgyzstan on June 16.
They are scheduled to play Bangladesh in Perth on September 3.
