Kuala Lumpur: Tajikistan are the Asian Football Confederation’s biggest mover in the latest FIFA World Ranking, rocketing an impressive 19 places up the global charts.
Tajikistan’s back-to-back wins over Bangladesh in 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualifying underpinned their rise from 164th to 145th, their highest position since 2014.
Asia’s other major positive movers on the new FIFA list are Yemen (up 16 places to 160th), Tajikistan (up 14 places to 120th), and India (up 11 places to 152nd)
Uzbekistan are now Asia’s third highest ranked national team after they rose ten places in the FIFA World Ranking despite playing just one match, a loss to Canada, in the period since the last rankings update.
Iran remain Asia’s number one ranked national team. Their ranking, 39th in the world, is unchanged, while Korea Republic rose two places thanks to their 2-1 over the Czech Republic on June 5.
Japan dropped four places to 57th, while Australia rounded out Asia’s top five by remaining 59th in the world.
Elsewhere, Iraq are back in the world’s top 100, rising three places to sit 99th on the global list.
The next FIFA World Ranking update will be issued on August 11.
