Male: Hong Kong eased into the second round of qualifiers for the 2012 Olympic Games on Wednesday as three first-half goals in the second-leg of their first round clash secured a 7-0 aggregate victory over the Maldives.
A 4-0 first-leg defeat left the Maldives with the proverbial mountain to climb in the return fixture and any hopes that Indian Ocean islanders may have harboured of an unlikely turnaround all but evaporated with 20 minutes gone when Lam Hok Hei scored the first of his two goals.
Stephen Ha added a second just four minutes later before Lam netted what transpired to be the last goal of the game a minute into first-half stoppage time.
Hong Kong join ten other Round 1 winners and the 13 highest ranked teams (based on the qualifiers and tournament proper at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing) in the Olympic Football Tournament London 2012 Asian Qualifiers Round 2 draw, which takes place at AFC House on March 30.
