Karma Dema: I want to open doors for more women in Bhutanese football

Kuala Lumpur: The latest edition of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC)’s It’s My Game campaign follows the career of Bhutan’s Karma Dema, one of the 20 women coaches selected for the pilot edition of the landmark AFC–Japan Football Association (JFA) Pro Diploma course.

At just 32, Dema has already carved her name into Bhutanese football history when, in 2024, she took charge of newly formed Tsirang FC, becoming one of the first women to lead a men’s team in the Bhutan Premier League (BPL).

Aqaba: Australia and Iraq will battle it out for the AFC U17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™ Qualifiers Group E top spot after registering contrasting wins on Friday.

Australia sauntered 6-0 past the Philippines while Iraq left it late to beat Bhutan 1-0.

Aqaba: Australia opened a two-point lead at the top of Group E of the AFC U17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™ Qualifiers after a 3-0 win against Bhutan on Wednesday.

Jordan and Iraq, meanwhile, battled to a 2-2 draw.

Aqaba: Australia kicked off their AFC U17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™ Qualifiers Group E campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 win against Jordan on Monday.

Bhutan and Philippines played to a goalless stalemate in the later match, with the result coming as a blow to both teams' hopes.

Aqaba: Jordan and Iraq recorded contrasting wins in Group E of the AFC U17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™ Qualifiers on Saturday. 

Jordan cruised 5-0 past Bhutan while Iraq had to stave off a determined Philippines to clinch a 3-2 victory.

Ardhiyah: Yemen kept alive their hopes of reaching the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ with a 7-1 win against Bhutan in their Qualifiers Final Round Group B tie on Tuesday.

With Lebanon 3-0 winners over Brunei Darussalam in the other game, Yemen went into the match knowing they couldn’t afford to slip up with the victory setting up a winners-take-all showdown with their fellow West Asian side on March 31.

Tehran: Esteghlal FC maintained a one-point lead in the Iran Pro League over last season’s runners-up Foolad Mobarakeh Sepahan SC while titleholders Tractor FC tumbled to fourth, three points behind.

Thimphu City closed the Bhutan Premier League in second place while Neftchi Fergana took over the Uzbekistan Super League lead from FC Istiklol.

Thimphu: Kyrgyz Republic’s FC Abdysh-Ata and Bhutan’s Paro FC shared honours in an enthralling 3-3 draw to finish their AFC Challenge League™ 2025/26 Group A campaigns on a high at Changlimithang Stadium on Friday.

Goals from Artem Bilyi, Baktai Talaibek and Erbol Abduzhaparov were matched by strikes from Evans Asante and a brace from Riku Ichimura to ensure both sides gained their first point of the competition in their final match.

Thimphu:  Altyn Asyr FC held off a spirited Paro FC to emerge 3-1 winners in a high-octane AFC Challenge League™ 2025/26 Group A match on Tuesday. 

Rahman Myratberdiyew’s first-half brace and a stunning goal from Resul Rovshenmyradov at the Changlimithang Stadium put the Turkmenistan side level on six points with Oman's Al Shabab Club.

Bhutan’s Paro, meanwhile, fell to their second straight defeat despite again fighting until the final whistle.

Tehran: Tractor FC followed up their AFC Champions League Elite™ 2025/26 win against Sharjah FC earlier last week by pushing Iran Pro League leaders Gol Gohar off the top with a second 5-0 win.

Paro FC claimed their fourth straight title, and sixth overall, in the Bhutan Premier League while Kyrgyz Premier League newcomers FC Bars Issyk-Kul claimed pole position in the standings for the first time.

Thimphu: Al Shabab Club held off a fighting Paro FC of Bhutan to earn a 1-0 win in their opening AFC Challenge League™ 2025/26 Group A clash on Saturday.

Kenean Maleko’s first-half penalty at Changlimithang Stadium gave the Oman side the  three points as they made their debut in the group stage of an AFC competition.
