Central & South Asia Wrap: Esteghlal take over, Fergana close league with loss

Tehran: Esteghlal FC took over the lead in the Iran Pro League while defending champions Tractor SC moved up the standings with their first win in three fixtures.

Newly-crowned champions Neftchi Fergana closed the 2025 Uzbekistan Super League by falling to relegated Khorezm Urgench while defending champions Mohammedan SC had mixed fortunes in the Bangladesh Football Premier League.

Saudi Arabia 2026 cast complete

Kuala Lumpur: The cast for the AFC U17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™ was decided following the conclusion of the Qualifiers on Sunday.

The seven group winners join Asia's representatives from the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025 - DPR Korea, Indonesia, Japan, Korea Republic, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan - at the Finals.

The Finals will be contested on May 7-24, 2026.

Hisor: Head coach Jorge Jesus said squad depth was the key for Al Nassr Club’s 4-0 win over FC Istiklol in their AFC Champions League Two 2025/26™Group D tie on Wednesday.

Goals from Joao Felix, Mohamed Simikan, Sadio Mane and Aiman Yahya secured the group’s top spot and the Saudi Pro League side can now start preparing for the knockout rounds.

Hisor: Al Nassr confirmed their progress to the knockout rounds of the AFC Champions League Two 2025/26™ on Wednesday as Jorge Jesus’ side handed hosts FC Istiklol a 4-0 defeat at Hisor Central Stadium to seal top spot in Group D with their fifth win in row.

Joao Felix’s 12th minute penalty gave Al Nassr the lead before Mohamed Simikan doubled the advantage with five minutes left in the first half and Sadio Mane stroked in the third in the 84th minute. Aiman Yahya hit the fourth in stoppage time.

Jesus’ squad move onto 15 points from five games while the result leaves FC Istiklol on six points from five matches as Igor Cherevchenko’s side attempt to claim the runners-up spot in the group and a place in the next phase.

Darwin: Tajikistan stayed in the hunt for a place at the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ after a 5-0 win against Timor-Leste in their Qualifiers Final Round Group A tie on Tuesday.

The Central Asian side moved onto 13 points with their March 31 fixture against the Philippines set to decide who takes the sole ticket from the group to the continental showpiece.

Doha: United States held off a spirited Tajikistan to emerge 2-1 winners in their FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025 Group I tie on Friday.

Tajikistan took an early lead through Mukhammad Nazriev but the Americans replied through Cavan Sullivan and Nimfasha Berchimas to claim a comeback win.

The result leaves the Central Asian side rooted at the foot of the table with their final fixture against Burkina Faso on Tuesday.

Baghdad: Al Zawraa SC exacted revenge on FC Istiklol with a 2-1 win in their AFC Champions League Two™ 2025/26 on Wednesday to leapfrog over the Tajikistan side into second spot in Group D.

Having suffered a defeat by the same scoreline in the reverse fixture, the win put the Iraqi side level on six points with Istiklol but with a superior goal difference.
