Perfect Uzbekistan retain title

Hisor: Uzbekistan defended their CAFA U-17 Women's Championship title with a 5-0 defeat of Tajikistan on Thursday.

The win over hosts Tajikistan meant Uzbekistan ended their campaign with a perfect record of three victories in the competition, which was played on a round robin format.

Kuala Lumpur: Chinese Taipei, Islamic Republic of Iran, Lebanon, Myanmar and Nepal have joined Australia, China PR and Vietnam in advancing from Round 1 of the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2024 Qualifiers.

The eight group winners progress to Round 2, where the four best sides will earn a spot in the Finals alongside the three highest seeds from the AFC U-19 Women’s Championship Thailand 2019 - champions Japan, DPR Korea and Korea Republic - and host nation Uzbekistan.

Kuala Lumpur: Australia and China PR booked their places in the next stage following the conclusion of Friday's matches of Round 1 of the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2024 Qualifiers.

Round 1 features a total 28 teams with the eight group winners to progress to Round 2, where the four best sides will earn a spot in the Finals where they will join the three highest seeds from the AFC U-19 Women’s Championship Thailand 2019 - champions Japan, DPR Korea and Korea Republic - and host nation Uzbekistan. 
 
The remaining groups will be decided on Saturday and Sunday so stay updated with the-AFC.com.

Kim bullish of Korea Republic's chances

Tashkent: Korea Republic will go into the quarter-finals of the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 in bullish mood after head coach Kim Eun-jung saw his side notch up another clean sheet in their 0-0 draw with Tajikistan at Bunyodkor Stadium on Wednesday.

The result ensured the Koreans topped Group C and they will face the runners-up in Group D in the last eight, with the winners not only advancing to the semi-finals but also securing a berth at this year’s FIFA U20 World Cup Finals in Indonesia.

 Kim’s team have yet to concede a goal in their three matches so far in Uzbekistan and the former striker was pleased with his squad’s group stage record.

Group C: Korea Republic top group, Tajikistan bow out

Tashkent: Korea Republic secured their place in the quarter-finals of the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 on Wednesday when they claimed top spot in Group C with a 0-0 draw against Tajikistan at Bunyodkor Stadium.

The Korean defence held firm for the third game in a row as Kim Eun-jung’s side ended the group phase without conceding a goal and finished ahead of Jordan, who also advanced to the last eight, with seven points.

 Korea Republic will next take on the runners-up from Group D while the draw means Tajikistan exit the competition with four points due to their inferior head-to-head record with the Jordanians.

Tashkent: Korea Republic’s Kim Eun-jung is determined to stick to his coaching principles when he sends his team into their final Group C clash at the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 against Tajikistan at Bunyodkor Stadium on Wednesday.

Kim’s side have yet to concede in their opening two games as the Koreans secured a 2-0 victory over Jordan on Sunday after kicking off the tournament with a 4-0 defeat of Oman.
 
And the 43-year-old former striker will look to continue that trend against Oleg Kubarev’s side when they face off on Wednesday.

Tashkent: Amadoni Komolov’s goal meant Tajikistan defeated Oman 1-0 on Sunday to keep their AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 knockout stage hopes alive and the skipper is determined to continue leading from the front. 

An opening day 2-0 loss to Jordan meant Tajikistan had to win against Oman and Komolov was proud to have delivered, with the Central Asian side to face Group C leaders Korea Republic in a do-or-die tie on Wednesday.

Kubarev wants more from his Tajikistan side after beating Oman

Tashkent: Head coach Oleg Kubarev was critical of his Tajikistan side despite their 1-0 victory over Oman in Group C of the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 on Sunday.

The Central Asian team left it late to grab the winner thanks to captain Amadoni Komolov who followed through with a powerful drive into the back of the net after Sunatullo Azizov’s header ricocheted against the upright with 10 minutes to go.

A first win of the campaign keeps Tajikistan’s hopes of reaching the quarter-finals alive heading into Matchday Three where they take-on Korea Republic who top the group having won both of their first two matches, but Kubarev insisted his side could have done more under different circumstances.
