Karma Dema: I want to open doors for more women in Bhutanese football

Kuala Lumpur: The latest edition of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC)’s It’s My Game campaign follows the career of Bhutan’s Karma Dema, one of the 20 women coaches selected for the pilot edition of the landmark AFC–Japan Football Association (JFA) Pro Diploma course.

At just 32, Dema has already carved her name into Bhutanese football history when, in 2024, she took charge of newly formed Tsirang FC, becoming one of the first women to lead a men’s team in the Bhutan Premier League (BPL).

Few names carry more weight in women’s futsal than Mozafar’s. A national icon in every sense, she famously guided IR Iran to their second Continental crown at the AFC Women’s Futsal Championship™ 2018, cementing her status as one of Asia’s most respected coaches.

Bernatskaia’s encounter with football may have started in the most conventional sense – joining her friends in school for a quick game and rising through the ranks to represent the national team eventually.

Spotlight on #AWCL Finals at AFC Women’s Football Online Session

Kuala Lumpur: The AFC Women’s Football Online Session successfully concluded on Tuesday, further highlighting the Asian Football Confederation (AFC)’s commitment to developing the women’s game in Asia.

The session, held virtually, was chaired by AFC Technical Director Andy Roxburgh and attended by more than 90 representatives from 41 Member Associations (MAs).
