Shaikh Salman lauds impact of new development programmes in meeting with FAM

Kuala Lumpur: Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa met with the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) President Bassam Adeel Jaleel in the Malaysian capital on Saturday to discuss ways to further strengthen the development of the game in Maldives.

Shaikh Salman praised President Jaleel, who has been leading the FAM since 2016, for spearheading an era of notable stability and progress in the South Asian nation. 
 
There has also been regional success for Maldives with the national team clinching the SAFF Championship in 2018 and club side Maziya Sports & Recreation also proving to be a commendable outfit in the South zone of the AFC Cup™.

Sharjah defeat Al Wahda to clinch UAE President’s Cup

Abu Dhabi: A second half goal was enough for Sharjah FC to edge Al Wahda FSCC 1-0 and win the 2021-2022 UAE President’s Cup at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium on Friday.

Sharjah, in claiming their ninth UAE President’s Cup, ended a 19-year wait to lift the title again – having also beaten Al Wahda on penalties in the 2002-2003 final.

Australian cast of match officials to officiate decider

Kuala Lumpur: Shaun Evans will lead an all-Australian line up of match officials for the AFC Cup™ 2022 Final between Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur City FC and Al Seeb Club of Oman at the National Stadium Bukit Jalil on Saturday.

Joining Evans are eight other match officials participating in the second match in the tournament’s history to implement the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system, following its debut in the AFC Cup™ 2021 Final.

2nd AFC Grassroots Special Online Session 2022 highlights importance of establishing regular competitions

Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) conducted the 2nd AFC Grassroots Special Online Session yesterday to discuss ways of maximising the potential of the grassroots movement.

With over 90 participants taking part, the attendees first received an update on the status of the AFC Grassroots Charter membership which currently endorses four members at the Gold level while 10 Member Associations (MAs) hold a Silver-level membership, and 25 MAs are in the Bronze category.
