AFC Annual Awards Seoul 2023: Spotlight on Asia’s finest stars

Kuala Lumpur: The spotlight will be shone firmly on the AFC Annual Awards Seoul 2023 come October 29 when the Player of the Year winners are revealed at the glittering ceremony.

Six of Asia’s very best are in the running for the most prestigious accolade of the night at the Grand Peace Palace in Kyung Hee University, in recognition of their outstanding performances for club and country.

AFC Annual Awards Seoul 2023 nominees revealed

·         Yazan Al Naimat, Seol Young-woo and Akram Afif to vie for AFC Player of the Year

The highly anticipated and star-studded cast of nominees for the AFC Annual Awards Seoul 2023 was announced today, with just under a month left to the gala ceremony.
 
Asia’s finest, headlined by the coveted AFC Player of the Year and AFC Women’s Player of the Year accolades, will be crowned on October 29 when the 28th edition of the AFC Annual Awards take place at the stunning Grand Peace Palace of the Kyung Hee University.

Venues and dates of the AFC’s prestigious annual events confirmed

Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has confirmed that the upcoming editions of the Confederation’s two marquee events – the AFC Annual Awards 2023 and the AFC Member Associations and Regional Associations Presidents’ and General Secretaries’ Conference 2024 – will be held in Seoul, Korea Republic.

For the first time ever, both flagship events will be held in the same city in successive fashion with the AFC Annual Awards Seoul 2023 scheduled to take place on October 29, 2024 at the Grand Peace Palace at the Kyung Hee University whilst the three-day AFC Member Associations and Regional Associations Presidents’ and General Secretaries’ Conference 2024 will follow from October 30 to November 1 at the Conrad Seoul.

Zarqa: Islamic Republic of Iran kicked off their bid for a place in the AFC U17 Asian Cup™ Saudi Arabia 2025 with an impressive 7-1 win against Hong Kong, China in Group A of the Qualifiers on Monday.

DPR Korea secured their second win of the campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Syria to lead the group on six points.

Strikes from Gabri Veiga and Feras Al Brikan gave Al Ahli a healthy cushion heading into the break, with an own goal from Fahad Al Hamad proving a mere consolation for Qatar’s Al Rayyan.

Al Ain: Salem Al Dawsari scored a hat trick to ensure 10-man Al Hilal SFC edged Al Ain FC 5-4 in a drama-packed thriller at Hazza bin Zayed Stadium on Monday as Jorge Jesus’ side continued their perfect start to the AFC Champions League Elite™ 2024/25.

Goals from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Al Dawsari in first half injury time looked to have swung the tie in the Saudi Pro League side’s favour after Soufiane Rahimi had earlier cancelled out Renan Lodi’s 26th minute opener for the visitors.

But a frantic second half sparked to life when Mateo Sanabria pulled one back for Al Ain in the 63rd minute and Al Dawsari’s second less than two minutes later restored the two-goal difference between the teams.
