Record-breaking 42 MAs celebrate AFC Women’s Football Day 2026

Kuala Lumpur: A record-breaking 42 Member Associations (MAs) will join the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to commemorate AFC Women’s Football Day 2026 with a series of activities aimed at promoting and recognising the continued progress of the women’s game in Asia.

The 12th edition of the annual celebration comes at a particularly significant time, as the Continent celebrates its premier women’s national team competition, the AFC Women’s Asian Cup™, which is underway from March 1 to 21 in Australia.

Sydney: Less than a week on from the opening match, the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026™ has reached yet another milestone as ticket sales crossed the 250,000 mark on Saturday.

The latest feather in the competition’s rich legacy follows the all-time tournament attendance record set during Thursday’s Group A tie between the hosts and the Islamic Republic of Iran, which now stands at almost 93,000 after 10 matches.

Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has taken note of the decision rendered by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on March 5, 2026, concerning the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and several players in relation to breaches of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.

This matter will now be referred to the AFC Disciplinary and Ethics Committee.

The AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026™ cemented its place in history by setting a new total attendance record of 82,371, after Thursday’s Group A fixture between Australia and the Islamic Republic of Iran drew a crowd of 22,398 at the Gold Coast Stadium.

The match saw the 21st edition of the Continental showpiece eclipse the previous tournament attendance record of 59,910, which was set in Chengdu, China PR, in 2010 when Australia were crowned champions.

Kuala Lumpur: In light of the developing situation in the Middle East, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has confirmed that the AFC Champions League Elite 2025/26™ Round of 16 first-leg matches in the West Region, originally scheduled for March 2–3, 2026, will now be rescheduled.

Additionally, the AFC Champions League Two 2025/26™ and AFC Challenge League 2025/26™ Quarter-final first-leg matches involving teams in the West Region, originally scheduled to be played between March 3 and 4, 2026, are also postponed until further notice.
