Sydney: Sixteen years after helping Australia to Continental glory, Tameka Yallop believes the moment has come for the Matildas to reign supreme again.

The 2010 triumph remains the only time that Australia have lifted the AFC Women’s Asian Cup™ trophy and a career highlight for Yallop, who made her international debut in 2007 as the 148th Matilda and has since amassed 134 caps and 14 goals.

A wide smile spreads across Yallop’s face as she recalls a recent gathering between some members from that winning side, who recounted their experiences for a documentary that was released by Football Australia last May.

Group C: Stalemate dashes Tajikistan’s hopes

Jakarta: Tajikistan’s dreams of reaching the knockout stage were shattered after they were held to a 1-1 stalemate by Australia in their AFC Futsal Asian Cup Indonesia 2026™ Group C match on Sunday.

The draw meant that Tajikistan finished on two points, two adrift of Central Asian rivals Uzbekistan, who were beaten 2-1 by Japan in the other tie.

Jakarta: Uzbekistan will need to go full throttle against Japan in their AFC Futsal Asian Cup Indonesia 2026™ Group C clash if they are to confirm their place in the knockout stage.

While Japan qualified with a match to spare after beating Tajikistan 3-0, Nodir Elibaev’s men - who are on four points after defeating Australia 4-2, cannot afford to lose on Sunday.

Waiting in the wings are their Central Asian neighbours Tajikistan, who have a chance of taking the remaining spot if they beat Australia and Uzbekistan fall to the four-time champions.

Group C: Australia 2-4 Uzbekistan

Jakarta: Uzbekistan roared their way back from two goals down to defeat Australia 4-2 in Group C of the AFC Futsal Asian Cup Indonesia 2026™ on Friday.

The victory moved the four-time runners-up to four points and within touching distance of the knockout stage, with Japan their opponents in Sunday’s group finale.

Takahashi wants Japan to stay in control; Uzbekistan, Tajikistan optimistic

Jakarta: Japan are in the driver’s seat as they head into Matchday Two of their AFC Futsal Asian Cup Indonesia 2026™ Group C campaign on Friday.

The four-time champions were the only team to take three points following an emphatic 6-2 win over Australia, with Uzbekistan and Tajikistan playing out a goalless result in the later match.
