ASEAN & East Asia Wrap: JDT lift Malaysia FA Cup; Malut stun Persib

Kuala Lumpur: Johor Darul Ta’zim once again underlined their domestic supremacy with a commanding FA Cup final triumph, adding more silverware to an already dominant campaign.

Malut United landed a major blow in Indonesia by defeating Persib Bandung while in Cambodia, leaders Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC were made to work hard for their point as they were held at home.

Group E: Beijing FC (CHN) 1-2 Macarthur FC (AUS)

Beijing: Harrison Sawyer’s penalty 19 minutes from time earned Macarthur FC a 2-1 win over Beijing FC at Workers’ Stadium on Thursday as the A-League side sealed top spot in Group E of the AFC Champions League Two 2025/26™.

Kristian Popovic had given Mile Sterjovski’s side the lead in the 56th minute and, although Sai Erjiniao had levelled the scores three minutes later, it was Sawyer’s spot kick after a foul on Luke Vickery that earned Macarthur their fourth win in six matches in the group phase.

 

The Australians move onto 13 points from their six matches to finish ahead of Vietnam’s Cong An Ha Noi with both clubs booking their places in the last 16 while Beijing finish in third place in the group.

Resilient Melbourne make Vidmar proud; Seoul’s Kim disappointed

Seoul: Head coach Aurelio Vidmar was proud of his side’s resilience after substitute Takeshi Kanamori’s late strike earned Melbourne City FC a 1-1 draw with FC Seoul in their AFC Champions League Elite 2025/26™ tie on Wednesday.

The point sees the Australian side sitting fourth in the East Zone standings with two matches remaining in the race for the eight Round of 16 spots.

Seoul: Melbourne City substitute Takeshi Kanamori struck 16 minutes from time to cancel out Jesse Lingard’s first-half opener for the hosts and earn the Australian side a 1-1 draw on Wednesday in the AFC Champions League Elite 2025/26™.

Lingard, playing in his final game for the K League side, gave Kim Gi-dong’s side a 31st minute lead with a first-time finish but Kanamori ensured City extended their unbeaten run in the competition to four matches with a clinical strike into the corner of the home goal.
 
The result moves Melbourne City onto 10 points from six matches with FC Seoul a point behind with two games remaining in the eastern league phase of the competition, which resumes in February.

Final draw: All you need to know

Kuala Lumpur: The Final Draw for the FIFA World Cup 2026™ will be held on Friday and it promises to be a spectacular affair.
