Jeddah: Ravshan Khaydarov did not hide his frustration after Uzbekistan were eliminated by China PR from the AFC U23 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™ on Saturday.

The Central Asian side dominated the last eight tie with over 70 percent possession and 28 attempts but failed to find the back of the net, with China PR winning the penalty shoot-out 4-2 after the tie ended 0-0.

Jeddah: China PR defeated Uzbekistan 4-2 on penalties to advance to the AFC U23 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™ semi-finals, with their last eight tie ending in a goalless draw after extra time at the Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Sports City Stadium on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Li Hao starred for China PR in the match and subsequent shoot-out, saving Dilshod Abdullaev’s spot-kick as his side set up a semi-final meeting with Vietnam on Tuesday, their first appearance at that stage.

Khaydarov: Patience the key to Uzbekistan’s win

Riyadh: Head coach Ravshan Khaydarov credited his players’ patience and perseverance for their 2-0 win over Korea Republic in their AFC U23 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™ Group C match on Tuesday.

The result secured the Central Asian side a place in the quarter-finals as they topped the group with seven points.

The 2018 champions came alive in the second half against Korea Republic, with goals from Behruzjon Karimov and substitute Saidumarkhon Saidnurullayev consigning their opponents to defeat.

Riyadh: Uzbekistan turned on the power in the second half to defeat Korea Republic 2-0 on Tuesday to seal their place in the AFC U23 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™ quarter-finals.

The 2018 champions finished top of Group C with seven points while Korea Republic also advanced as the runners-up despite the defeat after Islamic Republic of Iran’s 1-0 loss to Lebanon in the other tie.
