Morais applauds gritty Sepahan

Tehran: Jose Morais applauded his Sepahan FC players after the Islamic Republic of Iran side worked hard for a 1-0 win over Air Force Club in the AFC Champions League™ 2023/24 on Monday.

Sepahan, having taken a fourth minute lead through Farshad Ahmadzadeh, were reduced to 10 men just before the break after Mohammad Hosseinnezhad received a straight red for a late challenge on Mustafa Saadoun.
 
Hadi Mohammadi followed suit in the 90th minute but Sepahan held on to keep their Round of 16 hopes alive, with Morais' side to play leaders Al Ittihad FC of Saudi Arabia in their final Group C tie on Monday.

Galtier looks at positives as Al Duhail make exit

Doha: Al Duhail SC finally found their winning touch but it was not enough as they crashed out of the AFC Champions League™ 2023/24 on Monday.

Michael Olunga netted both goals as the Qatar champions defeated Tajikistan's FC Istiklol, but with the Al Nassr-Persepolis FC tie ending in a goalless stalemate, Al Duhail's hopes of advancing to the Round of 16 were dashed.

Tehran: Nine-man Sepahan FC of Islamic Republic of Iran held out to secure a valuable 1-0 win over Iraq’s Air Force Club to boost their hopes of advancing from Group C of the AFC Champions League™ 2023/24 at Azadi Stadium on Monday.

The win helped Sepahan keep pace with leaders Al Ittihad FC with the Saudi Arabian side two points ahead, with the two teams to meet in a decider on Matchday Six.

Group E: Al Nassr (KSA) 0-0 Persepolis FC (IRN)

Riyadh: Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr confirmed their qualification for the last 16 of the AFC Champions League™ 2023/24 as Group E winners on Monday despite playing most of their 0-0 draw against Persepolis FC in Riyadh with 10 men.

The result means Luis Castro’s side cannot be overtaken at the summit by second placed Persepolis with one round of matches remaining after Al Nassr held on to take a point despite Ali Lajami’s sending off in the 17th minute.

Al Nassr move onto 13 points from five games with Persepolis five points behind and the result also means that Al Duhail have been eliminated after the Qatari side had knocked Istiklol out of the competition earlier in the day.

The Iranians can still take one of the three best runners-up spots available in the last 16 when they take on Al Duhail in the final group game on December 5.

Doha: Michael Olunga scored both goals as Al Duhail SC defeated FC Istiklol 2-0 in Group E of the AFC Champions League™ 2023/24 on Monday.

The Kenyan scored in the 47th and 90th minutes to give Al Duhail their first win of the group phase but the victory was not enough as the Qatar side were eliminated after Saudi Arabia's Al Nassr and Persepolis FC of the Islamic Republic of Iran played to a goalless draw in the other Group E tie.

Olmaliq: Al Ittihad made it four wins in five when they consigned AGMK FC to their fifth straight defeat with a 2-1 score at the OKMK Sports Complex in Group B of the AFC Champions League™ 2023/24 on Monday. 

AGMK, knocked out already, will play their final game in the current edition next week against Air Force Club of Iraq, while Al Ittihad face IR Iran’s Sepahan on the same day.

Qarshi: FC Nasaf gave themselves a huge push towards qualification to the Round of 16 of the AFC Champions League™ 2023/24 with a 3-1 win against Jordan’s Al Faisaly at the Markaziy Stadium on Monday. 

The result saw FC Nasaf go top of Group B before they face Al Sadd next week in the final match of the group stage, while Al Faisaly - who have been knocked out - face Sharjah FC who are also vying for a qualification spot.

Sharjah: Al Sadd SC pulled themselves back into contention for a place in the knockout rounds of the AFC Champions League™ 2023/24 on Monday as the former winners handed Cosmin Olaroiu’s Sharjah FC a 2-0 defeat in the United Arab Emirates.

A goal in each half from Gonzalo Plato and Baghdad Bounedjah earned the Qatar side all three points in the Group B clash to move the 2011 champions onto seven points from five games with only their meeting with Uzbekistan’s FC Nasaf on Matchday Six left.
