Pyongyang: 4.25 SC advanced to the 2019 AFC Cup final after the second leg of the Inter-Zone final ended 0-0 on Wednesday, with the DPR Korea side winning on away goals after the first leg had finished in a 2-2 draw.
4.25 will face Lebanon's Al Ahed FC in the AFC Cup final on November 2, in a meeting between two first time finalists.
Hanoi: Kim Yu-song’s ninth goal of a prolific AFC Cup campaign earned DPR Korea’s 4.25 SC a dramatic 2-2 draw away at Vietnamese heavyweights Hanoi FC in the first leg of this season’s Inter-Zone Final.
After Rim Chol-min had given 4.25 an early lead, goals from Nguyen Van Quyet and Papa Kebe had appeared to swing the tie in Hanoi’s favour, only for the prolific Kim to strike with three minutes of normal time remaining to hand his side a distinct advantage with the return tie still to come in Pyongyang on October 2.
4.25 SC through to second successive Inter-Zone final
Pyongyang: Kim Yu-song struck twice as 4.25 SC advanced to the 2019 AFC Cup Inter-Zone final with a 2-0 win over Abahani Dhaka Limited in their Inter-Zone Semi-final return leg on Wednesday, with the DPR Korea side winning 5-4 on aggregate.
A tight first half at the Kim II Sung Stadium in Pyongyang saw neither side able to find the back of the net at the end of the first 45 minutes.
That, however, changed four minutes into the second half as substitute Kim found the back of the net, which drew the DPR Korea side level on aggregate and with the away goals advantage.
Inter-Zone SF 1st Leg: Abahani Limited Dhaka 4-3 4.25 SC
Dhaka: Bangladesh's Abahani Limited Dhaka will take a slim advantage into the return leg after defeating 4.25 SC of DPR Korea 4-3 in their 2019 AFC Cup Inter-Zone Semi-final 1st Leg on Wednesday.
Showing the attacking quality that produced 12 goals in the group stage, the hosts did enough to win on the night at the Bangabandhu National Stadium but 4.25’s three away goals keep them well in contention going into next Wednesday’s second leg in Pyongyang
Sohel Rana and Choe Jong-hyok traded early wondergoals, but a quickfire brace from Abahani forward Sunday Chizoba Nwadialu looked to have the hosts on the road to a comfortable victory before 4.25 pulled back a late goal to stay within striking distance.
Beirut: Al Jazeera coach Chiheb Ellili said that his side gave their best in order to avoid defeat against Lebanon’s Al Ahed in the second leg of the West Asia Zonal Final of this year’s AFC Cup on Tuesday.
After sharing a goalless draw in the first leg at home last week, Al Jazeera lost in Beirut as Tunisian striker Ahmed Akaichi scored the only goal for Al Ahed at the Camille Chamoun Sports City Stadium.
Beirut: Al Ahed reached the 2019 AFC Cup Final after a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Al Jazeera in the second leg of the West Zonal Final at Camille Chamoun Sports City Stadium on Tuesday.
Al Ahed, who had kept six clean sheets in the 2019 AFC Cup - more than any other team in the competition - controlled the early stages of the game as they maintained position, but failed to create real threats on Al Jazeera's goal.
The Jordanian side came close to scoring in the 21st minute, when Mahmoud Al Mardi sent a cross from a corner kick towards Yazan Al Arab, however, the defender's powerful header was saved by Al Ahed goalkeeper Mehdi Khalil.
