Matchday Three: Central, South & East Zones Preview

Kuala Lumpur: The 12 sides in the Central, South and East Zones of the 2019 AFC Cup will play their Matchday Three fixtures on Tuesday and Wednesday as their group stage moves towards its midway point in the three regions. 

The six matches will take place across just three countries, with Tajikistan, India and Hong Kong each hosting a pair of games over the coming days.

Hong Kong: Wofoo Tai Po maintained their 100 percent record in the 2019 AFC Cup following a rollercoaster 4-2 win over Chinese Taipei’s Hang Yuan FC at Mong Kok Stadium on Wednesday.

Having beaten fellow Hong Kong Premier League side Kitchee SC in Group I’s Matchday One, the hosts were on top in the opening spell and Brazilian-born striker Sandro forced Hang Yuan goalkeeper Huang Chiu-Lin into action with a firm header on 11 minutes.

Benchy Estama responded at the other end with a superb free-kick on the quarter-hour mark that needed a combination of Tsang Man Fai and the crossbar to deny the Haitian.

Group E: Chennaiyin FC 2-0 Manang Marshyangdi Club

Ahmedabad: Chennaiyin FC moved to the top of Group E in the 2019 AFC Cup after the Indian side defeated Nepal’s Manang Marshyangdi Club 2-0 at The Arena Stadium on Wednesday.

Both teams went into the Matchday Two encounter looking to pick up their maiden win in the AFC Cup and, indeed, aiming to score their first goal in the competition.

After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, it was Chennaiyin’s overseas players who proved the heroes as quick-fire goals from Australian Chris Herd and Brazilian Mailson Veriato early in the second half secured all three points.
