Ashgabat: Turkmenistan’s Altyn Asyr clinched their place in the AFC Cup Inter-Zone Final with a 2-0 victory over JSW Bengaluru in the second leg of the semi-final on Wednesday, sealing a 5-2 aggregate win.
The home side were rarely troubled as they built on last week’s impressive 3-2 triumph over the Indian Super League champions.
Altyn Asyr created the best early opening as Altymyrat Annadurdyyev shot wide from the left side of the penalty area.
Selim Nurmuradov missed another chance when he headed past the post from close range in the 16th minute.
A fine break forward from Bengalaru ended with Sunil Chhetri going down in the box in the 38th minute. With the Indian side calling for a penalty, the referee booked the striker for diving.
Just before the half-time whistle, Nurmuradov sent in a shot from distance that bounced awkwardly in front of Gurpreet Singh Sadhu but the keeper held onto the ball at the second attempt.

Pyongyang: DPR Korea's 4.25 SC beat Home United of Singapore 9-1 in the second leg of the 2018 AFC Cup Inter-Zone Semi-final on Tuesday, to advance with an 11-1 aggregate score.
After claiming a 2-0 victory in the first leg in Singapore last week, the hosts went into the game at Kim Il Sung Stadium as strong favourites but fell behind in the 19th minute when Song Ui-young scored his ninth goal of a superb campaign to give Home United genuine hope of a comeback.
But Om Chol-song levelled four minutes later to ease any nerves among 4.25 before Rim Chol-min gave them the lead on the 30-minute mark to leave the visitors needing to score a further three to progress.

Kuala Lumpur: Altyn Asyr’s upcoming appearance in the AFC Cup Inter-Zone Semi-finals marks the first time a side from Turkmenistan has reached the competition’s knockout rounds, having also done so with an unbeaten record.
The Ashgabat-based club were crowned Central Asia Zonal champions after Mihail Titow’s 97th-minute goal in May ousted Tajikistan’s FC Istiklol to book a date with India’s JSW Bengaluru, who Istiklol eliminated in last year’s competition en route to their second appearance in the final.
With Central Asian sides having been represented in the AFC Cup in every edition but one since the inaugural tournament in 2004, the-AFC.com looks back at how its sides have performed over the years as Altyn Asyr look to continue the region’s recent upward trajectory.
