Vientiane: Star midfielder Song Ui-young hailed the fighting spirit of Home United FC as the Singaporeans carved out a narrow 3-2 victory over Lao Toyota FC FCon Wednesday despite going a man down for the final 25 minutes.
It’s been a slow start to their AFC Cup campaign for last year’s ASEAN Zone champions, Home United, with just one win from their first three matches.
One mitigating factor has been the prolonged absence of key man Song, one of the standout players in last year’s competition and a player who contributed five goals in the group stage in 2018, finishing with nine goals overall.
But having recovered from a groin complaint that saw him miss the first three matches of this year’s campaign, Song returned for Home United on Wednesday and made an immediate impact for The Protectors.

Vientiane: A brace from the returning Song Ui-yong helped Singapore's Home United to a much-needed 3-2 win over a brave Lao Toyota FC of Laos on Matchday Four of the 2019 AFC Cup Group H on Wednesday.
It’s been a week of celebrations in the Lao capital for Lao New Year and the home side was aiming to keep the celebrations going as they looked to end their 12-match winless run in the AFC Cup, a streak that dates back to 2016.
The celebrations continued early when the home side took a surprise lead, with Rafael heading home from Saison Khounsamnan’s corner in the 11th minute to give hope to Jun Fukuda and his team.

Bacolod City: Indonesia's PSM Makassar rose to the top of Group H on Matchday Four of the 2019 AFC Cup after beating Kaya FC-Iloilo 2-1 with two first-half goals on Wednesday.
In what was a clash of Group H’s top two teams, the game handed the winners the chance to open up a three-point lead on the losers and in turn secure the potentially important better head-to-head record.
A handball by Kaya defender Jalsor Soriano opened the door for Makassar in the 14th minute but a well-worked free kick came to nothing as Muhammad Rachmat’s pass into the penalty area narrowly avoided finding Eero Markkanen just a few yards out from goal.

Thu Dau Mot: American Victor Mansaray, who only signed for Becamex Binh Duong in February, made a name for himself with an impressive second-half treble, together with two assists, in a 6-0 rout of Myanmar’s Shan United on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old Mansaray, a former U-18 and U-20 international for the USA, had previous stints with MLS sides Seattle Sounders and FC Cincinnati, before arriving in Vietnam at the start of the current V-League 1 season.
While he could be forgiven for basking in the limelight given his outstanding individual showing, Mansaray is already focusing on the next game.
“It is a special feeling for sure, and I’ll just let it sink in,” he told the-AFC.com.

Thu Dau Mot: A second half hat-trick from Victor Mansaray helped Vietnam's Becamex Binh Duong keep their hopes of progressing to the 2019 AFC Cup ASEAN Zonal semi-finals alive after a comfortable 6-0 win over Myanmar’s Shan United FC on Tuesday.
Sitting third in Group G coming into the clash, the Vietnamese side were looking to repeat their success from Matchday Three when they defeated Shan United 2-1 in Yangon.
They were on the front foot early and took the lead in just the fifth minute when captain Nguyen Anh Duc opened the scoring after a nice piece of build-up play between Vo Hoang Quang, Tong Anh Ty and Mansaray.

Singapore: Tampines Rovers stay on top of Group F after two added-time goals gave them a dramatic 4-2 win over Naga World on Matchday Four of the 2019 AFC Cup on Wednesday.
The three points ensured that the Singapore side maintained a three-point lead over second-placed Hanoi FC.
There was a dream start for the home side when they took the lead after three minutes. Zehrudin Mehmedovic played a perfectly weight pass into the path of Irwan Shah, who prodded the ball past Sou Yaty.

Yangon: A hat-trick from Pape Omar Faye helped Hanoi FC to a come-from-behind 5-2 victory over Yangon United at the Thuwunna Stadium on Wednesday.
Having lost to the Myanmar champions in their previous Group F encounter two weeks ago, the Vietnamese side knew they had to collect all three points to keep alive their hopes of progressing from the group stage, a feat they haven’t achieved since 2014.
With that in mind the visitors made the perfect start when they took the lead in just the third minute when star midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai squared the ball across the box, allowing Pape Omar Faye a simple tap in at the back post.
