Williams confident of ATK Mohun Bagan's AFC Cup chances

Kolkata: ATK Mohun Bagan striker David Williams is confident the Indian Super League club will go far in the 2021 AFC Cup ahead of their Group D challenge kicking off on Wednesday.

ATK Mohun Bagan arrived in the Maldives on Saturday, with the South Zone matches to be played in Male, after two weeks of intensive preparations and Williams said they are looking forward to the campaign.

Williams, who recently extended his contract for a third season, will be expected to lead from the front but the Australian said he was unfazed by the expectations.

Male: Bengaluru FC of India defeated Club Eagles of Maldives 1-0 in their playoff to seal a place in the 2021 AFC Cup Group Stage at the National Stadium in Male, Maldives on Sunday.

Bengaluru advance to Group D of the 2021 AFC Cup, with their first match against fellow Indian side ATK Mohun Bagan on Wednesday. Bangladesh's Bashundhara Kings will play Maziya Sports & Recreation of Maldives in the other Matchday One tie.

The South Zonal champions will advance to the Inter-Zone semi-final against FC Nasaf of Uzbekistan or FC Ahal of Turkmenistan from the Central Zone.

Thomas Dennerby takes charge of India's AFC Women's Asian Cup challenge

New Delhi: Sweden's Thomas Dennerby has been appointed to chart India's challenge in the AFC Women's Asian Cup 2022.

The 62-year-old Dennerby, who is in charge of the Indian U-17 Women's World Cup squad, replaces Rocky Maymol.

India will host the AFC Women's Asian Cup 2022 on January 20-February 6.
