The win sets up a tantalising final group match between Etihad and India's Odisha FC on Saturday - both teams on maximum points with only the group winners advancing to the next stage of the competition.

Riyadh: Substitute Fatema Almarzooqi’s last-gasp goal helped Abu Dhabi Country Club of United Arab Emirates to a 1-0 win over Myanmar’s Myawady Women Football Club in Group A of the AFC Women's Champions League™ 2024/25 Preliminary Stage at the King Saud University Stadium on Wednesday.

The win took Abu Dhabi Country Club to six points with a clash against Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr to come on Saturday while already-eliminated Myawady face Young Elephants of Laos.

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah FA of Malaysia withstood heavy pressure from Nepal’s APF Football Club before coming away with a goalless draw in their AFC Women’s Champions League™ 2024/25 Preliminary Stage Group C tie on Wednesday.

The result means that Sabah will go into Saturday’s clash with Uzbekistan’s FC Nasaf still with a chance of reaching the group stage while APF exit the competition with one point from two matches.

Thimphu: Fu Chui Man’s first half goal steered Hong Kong’s Kitchee SC to a 1-0 win over Royal Thimphu College FC of Bhutan in their AFC Women’s Champions League™ 2024/25 Preliminary Stage Group D tie at the Changlimithang Stadium on Wednesday.

The victory means Kitchee will face Bam Khatoon of the Islamic Republic of Iran on Saturday to decide the group winners, while Royal Thimphu College’s campaign comes to an end after two consecutive defeats.

Lalitpur: Bangladesh won their maiden SAFF U-20 SAFF Championship in style, cruising 4-1 past Nepal in the final of the 2024 edition on Wednesday.

Mirajul Islam, who scored a brace and set up another, was the star of the show with  Rabby Hossen Rahul and Piyas Ahmmed Nova scoring one apiece, while Samir Tamang reduced the margin for hosts Nepal.

Westwood takes charge of Hong Kong, China

Hong Kong: Hong Kong, China have appointed former Afghanistan coach Ashley Westwood to replace Jorn Andersen as the representative team’s new head coach.

Westwood takes over after Andersen left in June to coach China League One side Yunan Yukun having qualified Hong Kong, China for the finals of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023, the first time the association had qualified for the championship since 1968.

The 47-year-old former defender previously worked in club football in India and Malaysia before taking over as Afghanistan coach in November 2023 and has signed a two-year contract.

History maker Saud joins Roma, Cancelo arrives at Al Hilal

Roma: Saud Abdulhamid has created history by becoming the first Saudi Arabian player to sign for a Serie A club - with the full-back’s signing confirmed by AS Roma on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old started his career with Al Ittihad before moving to Al Hilal SFC in 2022, winning the Saudi Pro League title with both clubs.

Abdulhamid started all four matches for Saudi Arabia in their run to the Round of 16 of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™, having also won the AFC U23 Asian Cup™ title in 2022.
