Fluminense bank point to secure progress

Miami Gardens: ​​Fluminense FC have qualified for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 knockout phase after battling out a tense 0-0 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns FC on Wednesday.

The Brazilian side needed a point to book their place in the last 16 and they successfully shut out Sundowns, who required victory to extend their stay in the USA. 

Fluminense have advanced as Group F runners-up, with Borussia Dortmund beating Ulsan HD in the section’s other fixture on Wednesday to secure top spot.

With PSG defeating the Seattle Sounders 2-0 in the other Group B fixture, that task proved beyond Diego Simeone's men in another sweltering midday kick off in front of 22,992 fans at the Pasadena Rose Bowl.

Former France international Antoine Griezmann scored the game's only goal, lashing home a Julian Alvarez cross in the 87th minute to give Atletico a victory that ultimately was in vain.

Seattle: Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Achraf Hakimi scored either side of half-time as European champions Paris Saint-Germain eased to a 2-0 win over Seattle Sounders on Monday to secure their place in the last 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.

PSG needed to bounce back from their 1-0 loss at the hands of Botafogo in their last Group B outing and they were too strong for the MLS side without ever really playing to their full potential.

Kvaratskhelia deflected a wayward Vitinha shot into the net to open the scoring on 35 minutes in front of 50,628 fans at Lumen Field, Sounders' home stadium.

Hakimi then made it 2-0 just before the midway point in the second half to kill off any prospect of a comeback by the hosts.
