Kashima: For the first time since 2019, the EAFF (East Asian Football Federation) E-1 Football Championship will return with four of the region’s top sides set to battle it out in the men’s round robin competition that kicks off on Tuesday.
The tournament, which was initially due to take place in 2021 but was postponed due to COVID-19, will see holders Korea Republic, hosts Japan, China PR and Hong Kong face off in the cities of Kashima and Toyota.

Losada’s side handed Tainan City a 3-1 defeat at Buriram Stadium to secure top spot in Group J and progress to the Inter-Zone Semi-finals ahead of fellow Hong Kong Premier League side Lee Man.
Goals from Mikael, Sun Him-ming and Victor Bertomeu earned Eastern their second consecutive win in the competition to cap an impressive performance after a season that has been heavily disrupted by a severe COVID-19 outbreak in Hong Kong earlier this year.
Group J: Eastern Long Lions (HKG) 3-1 Tainan City FC (TPE)
Buriram: Eastern Long Lions booked their place in the next phase of the AFC Cup™ 2022 on Thursday as the Hong Kong Premier League side handed Tainan City from Chinese Taipei a 3-1 defeat in Buriram to secure top spot in Group J.
Mikael’s first half header put Roberto Losada’s side in control before Sun Him-ming doubled their lead five minutes into the second half. And while Ange Kouame’s individual effort gave Tainan hope, Victor Bertomeu confirmed Eastern’s victory with 17 minutes remaining.
The win was Eastern’s second in a row in Group J following their 3-1 defeat of Lee Man last week, meaning they top the standings and advance to the Inter-Zone Semi-finals.
