Philippines scale new height in latest FIFA Women's Ranking
Kuala Lumpur: The Philippines women’s national team reached their highest-ever FIFA Ranking of 53, following the latest ranking released on Friday.
After their success at the AFC Women’s Asian Cup™ India 2022 that saw them qualify for their first FIFA Women’s World Cup, the Philippines bagged the recent Hanoi SEA Games bronze medal by beating Myanmar.
Tashkent: Japan and Australia will not be lacking motivation when they face-off in the AFC U23 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 Third Place Playoff on Saturday.
Australia finished third in Thailand 2020, their best-ever finish in the tournament, and while head coach Trevor Morgan expects a tough fight from 2016 champions Japan, his aim is to equal their record of two years ago.
Rawlins wants to end Olyroos campaign on high note
Tashkent: At 18, Joshua Rawlins is the second youngest member of the Australia squad at the AFC U23 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 and the player has thrived with the valuable experience of playing with and against the best in Asia.
Having featured in three of Australia’s five matches in the tournament, Rawlins is eager to again step up for the Olyroos in their battle for third place against 2016 champions Japan on Saturday.
Disappointed Fujita sets eyes on third-place finish
Tashkent: As Japan’s quest to reclaim the title came to an end in the semi-finals of the AFC U23 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2022, Joel Chima Fujita said the defeat was caused by the team finding their momentum too late.
Japan, seeking to add the 2022 title to the one won in 2016, were defeated 2-0 by a vibrant Uzbekistan side in their semi-final on Wednesday, with the loss coming just days after Go Oiwa’s side had played their best to end Korea Republic’s reign in the quarter-finals.
Defeat means instead of vying for the title in Sunday’s final, Japan will face Australia in the third-place playoff on Saturday.
