AFC and United Nations drive FFTG momentum with new members

Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the United Nations’ Football for the Goals (FFTG) initiative today reaffirmed their shared commitment to leveraging on the power of football to drive social development across Asia with an increasing number of football stakeholders who are formally aligned with the FFTG’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) platform.

The Football Association of Indonesia, Chinese Football Association and the Philippine Football Federation have become the latest applicants, bringing the total number of AFC Member Associations (MAs) and Regional Associations (RAs) currently under review to 20. Meanwhile, The Football Association of Thailand, Football Association of Brunei Darussalam, Tajikistan Football Federation and Football Association of Maldives have joined the eight existing members (see end of page).

Tashkent: The Uzbekistan Football Association (UFA), supported by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Dream Asia Foundation, hosted the “We Are All Equal” programme for children with disabilities and special needs, further underlining the power of football in promoting inclusion and equality in society.

Held on April 15, 2025, at Special School No. 52 in Tashkent, the fun-filled event welcomed more than 140 children, uniting them in a day of joy, empowerment and belonging through the beautiful game.

Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC), in collaboration with the United Nations’ (UN) Football For the Goals initiative (FFTG), organised the AFC-FFTG Workshop from July 23 to 24, 2024 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, further underlining the Confederation’s determination to harness the power of football to drive social change.

The landmark event aimed to chart a clear path for the AFC, which became an FFTG member in October 2022, to capitalise on the opportunities presented through its involvement in the initiative, becoming a leading force in sustainability transformation within the global football community.

Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) today kicked off the introductory session of its acclaimed AFC Certificate in Football Leadership (ACFL) initiative, now in its third edition, as it continues to hone the capabilities of Asia’s football decision-makers.

Held virtually from the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, it was attended by 30 participants from AFC Member Associations (MAs), a Regional Association (RA), diverse football stakeholders, as well as graduates of other programmes curated by the landmark AFC Academic Centre of Excellence (ACE).

AFC and SAFF collaborate to elevate football development

Jeddah: The Asian Football Confederation today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) to further enhance the football ecosystem in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The signing ceremony took place at the Ritz-Carlton Jeddah Hotel between the AFC General Secretary Datuk Seri Windsor John, and SAFF General Secretary Ibrahim Alkassim, on the sidelines of the AFC Champions League Elite™ Finals Jeddah 2025.
