Melaka: Dordoi boss Sergey Dvoryankov is confident that his team have a good chance to clinch their third AFC President’s Cup title this year in Melaka, Malaysia.
The Kyrgyzstan outfit, who were the 2006 and 2007 winners, are making a record eighth time appearances in the competition this year.
They are now in Group B along with KRL Football Club of Pakistan and Palestine’s AlQuds Hilal Club as rivals.
“We know that we are very experienced in the AFC President’s Cup so we can be sure to be the champions again,” said Dvoryankov (pictured, right) during a press conference on Sunday.
“It may be difficult as five strong clubs are looking to lay their hands on the tile also.
“And people say Balkan are easy opponents because we are neighbours in Central Asia and we have played them before but it is hard to say because each club have strong possibilities to win. Anything is possible.”
Dordoi skipper Vadim Kharchenko (left) played in five editions – 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2012 – of the AFC President’s Cup and hopes to make this experience useful for the team.
“I will try to provide good leadership to the team which is quite younger this time. We’ll be ready to play our matches,” he said.
The Bishkek-based club’s campaign will kick off against KRL on Monday before they face AlQuds Hilal two days later.
