Bangkok: Reigning AFF Suzuki Cup champions Malaysia were pitted against traditional rivals Indonesia as the draw for the November-December event took place in Bangkok on Wednesday.
Malaysia, who won the biennial competition in 2010 by beating Indonesia 4-2 on aggregate in the double-header finals, will also face the challenge of Singapore in Group B.
Co-hosts Thailand are pooled alongside Vietnam and the Philippines in Group A.
Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Timor Leste will be vying for the remaining two spots through the qualifiers slated for October.
The two winners of the centralised qualifiers to be held in Yangon will join the two groups of the tournament as the group stage kicks off on November 24 in Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur. The winner of the qualifier will join Group A while the runners-up will be pooled in Group B.
Malaysia’s Bukit Jalil National Stadium and Shah Alam Stadium will be used for the group stages while in Thailand Rajamangala and Supachalasai Stadiums will host the events.
The semi-finals of the AFF Suzuki Cup will be held on December 8/9 (first leg) and December 12/13 (second leg) with the home-and-away final matches on December 19 and December 22.
