Yangon: The Myanmar Football Federation has hired German Antoine Hey as head coach of the national and U-23 squads.
Hey, who managed several African teams previously, has signed a contract till December, 2019.
"If there were no belief to succeed, I will not have accepted to do this work,” said Hey in Yangon on Friday.
The 47-year-old played as a midfielder for Swiss club Grasshoppers, German sides Dusseldorf, Schalke, Fortuna Koln and England's Birmingham. He retired in 2004.
As a coach, he managed in Gambia, Liberia, Kenya and Rwanda.
Hey's first challenge will be to prepare Myanmar for ASEAN's AFF Cup in December.
