The Qatar Stars League (QSL) was incepted in the early sixties of the past century, and with time some rivalries were born and grew to become a focus point for fans.

As the kick-off date for the historic 2021 edition approaches, the-AFC.com looks back at the 2020 tournament which turned out to be a thrilling affair despite the challenging circumstances.

A German-born Italian, Pezzaiuoli’s first assignment will be leading Bengaluru in the 2021 AFC Cup Preliminary Stage Two game that takes place on April 14.

The South American trio – all previous winners of the FIFA Club World Cup – were in Qatar for the 2020 edition of the annual competition after it was postponed last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The tournament reached its climax on Thursday with UEFA Champions League holders FC Bayern Munich defeating Mexican side Tigres UANL from the CONCACAF region 1-0 in the final.

The 29-year-old creative midfielder was on the ranks of Al Jazira but his contract was mutually terminated at the start of February following a season that was marred by injury.

The duo link up with the Uzbekistan Cup runners-up ahead of their AFC Champions League play-off against Qatar’s Al Gharafa, with the winners to join Al Hilal SFC, Shabab Al Ahli and FC Istiklol in Group A.
