Malaysia stay ahead as Australia, Thailand keep pace
Chonburi: Malaysia defeated Cambodia 2-0 to stay top of Group B of the 2019 AFF Under-15 Championship on Tuesday.
Their lead, however, is only on goal difference as Australia and Thailand also recorded their second wins at the Institute of Physical Education in Chonburi, Thailand to ensure a thrilling tussle in Group B for the two semi-final spots.
Timor-Leste, Indonesia celebrate second successive wins
Chonburi: Timor-Leste and Indonesia secured their second successive victories as Vietnam recovered from an opening day defeat to claim full points on the third day of the 2019 AFF U-15 Championship being on Monday.
Indonesia 3-0 Singapore
After defeating Vietnam 2-0 in their opening match, Indonesia continued their victorious march against Singapore. After coming close in the 16th minute when Kadek Arel Priyatna’s header from Marselino’s free-kick, screamed over the bar, Indonesia made up for the miss with their opening goal two minutes later.
Chonburi: Striker Muhammad Harry Danish Mohd Haizon hit a hat-trick to steer Malaysia to an 8-0 win over Brunei Darussalam in their opening 2019 AFF U-15 Championship Group B match at the Institute of Physical Education Stadium in Chonburi, Thailand on Sunday.
Australia and Thailand were also winners in the other Group B games on Sunday, defeating Cambodia and Laos respectively.
Tajikistan reach the summit as Afghanistan stun IR Iran
Dushanbe: Host nation Tajikistan lead the field with two matchdays remaining at the CAFA U-16 Championship, after a late goal from Afghanistan’s Ahmad Zakaria Hussaini gave Islamic Republic of Iran their first defeat of the competition on Monday.
Hussaini’s goal - coupled with Tajikistan’s comfortable 3-0 win over Turkmenistan - helped the hosts move to the top of the standings on seven points, with only goal difference separating them from Afghanistan.
In Monday’s other match, Uzbekistan held off a fast-finishing Kyrgyz Republic to register their first win of the competition, which pits the region’s brightest young talents against each other over five 70-minute matches apiece in Dushanbe and Hisor.
