Thailand star Nild seals European deal

Šiauliai: Thailand women’s national team striker Miranda Nild has joined Lithuanian club Gintra Universitetas, in a move which is set to make her the first Thai player to appear in the prestigious UEFA Women’s Champions League.

The 22-year-old forward, also known as Suchawadee Nildhamrong, arrives at the club from her birthplace in California, where she has spent the past four years playing in the US college system for California Golden Bears

The defending Lithuanian champions, Gintra Universitetas are among 40 clubs vying for a place in the final 32 of Europe’s premier women’s club competition, with three qualifiers set to determine their fate.

Vermaelen signs for Vissel Kobe

Kobe: Belgian international defender Thomas Vermaelen has become the latest high profile player to move to Vissel Kobe, the Japanese club announced on Saturday.

The 33-year-old, whose contract with Barcelona has now expired, will team up with David Silva, Lucas Podolski and his former Barca captain Andres Iniesta.

Vermaelen, who is reported to have turned down an offer to join Vincent Kompany at Anderlecht, passed his medical and visited the club's training complex.

Taremi makes Portugal move

Tehran: Islamic Republic of Iran striker Mehdi Taremi has joined Portuguese club Rio Ave FC.

Taremi, 27, has signed a two-year deal with the Primeira Liga side.

Italy's El Shaarawy and Kim Shin-wook join Shanghai Shenhua

Shanghai: Stephan El Shaarawy and Kim Shin-wook have signed for China PR's Shanghai Shenhua, the club announced on Monday.

El Shaarawy - nicknamed The Pharoah because of his Egyptian ancestry - had only a year left on his contract with the Serie A club, having joined Roma in 2016 from AC Milan after a loan spell in Monaco.

Capped 23 times for Italy, he scored 11 goals in Serie A last season as Roma finished sixth and qualified for the Europa League.

Kuala Lumpur: Defender Alvaro Silva is parting ways with Ceres Negros FC following the Philippines club’s exit from the 2019 AFC Cup.

Ceres Negros were eliminated in the 2019 AFC Cup ASEAN Zonal semi-finals by Vietnam champions Hanoi FC 3-2 on aggregate.

The centre-back, who joined Ceres Negros at the beginning of the season, started both legs of the Zonal semi-final.

Korea Republic's Ji Dong-won signs for Mainz

Paris: Korea Republic international forward Ji Dong-won will join Mainz 05 at the end of the season on a free transfer, the German club announced on Monday.

Ji, 27, who has 54 caps to his name has signed a three-year deal with the Bundesliga outfit as his contract with current side Augsburg comes to an end in July.

"We're pleased to have signed a player like Dong-won, who brings with him many years of both domestic and international experience. Being able to sign him on a free is another bonus for us," Mainz's sporting director Rouven Schroeder said.
