Souttar joins the Blades, star names for AWCL

Sheffield: Australian defender Harry Souttar will spend the 2024/25 season with English Championship side Sheffield United after his loan move from Leicester City was confirmed on Monday.

The 25-year-old will provide much needed cover for the Blades as they look to regain their Premier League spot following relegation in the 2023/24 season with manager Chris Wilder singing Souttar’s praises.

Al Qadsiah get Fernandez boost, Olwan bolsters Selangor

Khobar: Saudi Pro League outfit Al Qadsiah continued to strengthen after revealing Argentine Ezequiel Fernandez as their latest signing on Monday.

Fernandez, who played a starring role in Argentina’s run to the quarter-finals of the Men’s Olympic Football Tournament Paris 2024, is a defensive midfielder who was previously with Boca Juniors.

The 22-year-old will team up with the likes of Nacho and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as Al Qadsiah look to have a strong season after returning to the top flight.

Jeong joins Wanderers, Al Shabab sign Bonaventura

Sydney: Experienced defender Jeong Tae-wook has been confirmed as Western Sydney Wanderers’ new signing, joining the Australian side on a season-long loan from Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC.

Prior to joining Jeonbuk last season, the 27-year-old had spells with Daegu FC and Jeju United with this being his first stint outside of Korea Republic.

Isfahan: Shabab Al Ahli came from behind to defeat Sepahan FC 4-1 after extra time in their AFC Champions League Elite™ 2024/25 Preliminary Stage 1 tie at the Naghsh-e-Jahan Stadium on Tuesday.

The win took Shabab Al Ahli within one match of qualifying for the West league stage with the United Arab Emirates side to face Qatar's Al Gharafa on August 13 in the second preliminary stage.

Paris: United States and Brazil will meet in the final of the Women's Olympic Football Tournament Paris 2024 after claiming contrasting wins in Tuesday's last-four ties against Germany and World Cup holders Spain respectively.

United States, record four-time women's football gold medallists, remained on course to win the title for the first time since 2012 after beating Germany 1-0 in extra time in Lyon, with Sophia Smith scoring the only goal.

Brazil later won through to their first final since 2008 by unexpectedly getting the better of the reigning world champions with a remarkable 4-2 victory in Marseille.

Lyon: Jean-Philippe Mateta scored twice as hosts France came from behind to beat Egypt 3-1 after extra time on Monday and set up a Men’s Football Olympic Tournament Paris 2024 final showdown with Spain.

Spain, seeking to win the gold for a second time after emerging champions in 1992 and runners-up in the last edition, edged Morocco 2-1 in the other semi-final.
