Palestine clinch maiden title

Aqaba: Palestine etched their name into the history books after defeating Jordan 4-2 in a dramatic penalty shootout, after a 1-1 score in normal regulation, to win the 5th WAFF U20 Girls Championship on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Mirave Marouf was the star in the shootout, saving two penalties to secure Palestine’s victory - marking the first-ever international title for men and women of all ages in the WAFF - since the men's team won the AFC Challenge Cup in 2014.

Their journey to the knockout stage, however, made for a bumpy ride. They needed a spot-kick rebound from Evandra Florasta two minutes into time added on to stun two-time champions Korea Republic 1-0 in their first match.
