Greatest AFC Asian Cup teams – Japan (2000-11)

Kuala Lumpur: In the modern era, no Asian men's team has enjoyed the success on the international and Continental stage as that of the Samurai Blue in the period from 2000 to 2011.

Beginning with their second AFC Asian Cup™ title at Lebanon 2000 and culminating in Qatar 2011 with their fourth, and including two FIFA World Cup Round of 16 finishes, Japan enjoyed a period of dominance and records that few have accomplished before and since.
 
While their three AFC Asian Cup championships from four tournaments is the physical evidence of their success, Japan also achieved record finishes at the FIFA Confederations Cup (runners-up) and the Asian Games (gold), while their efforts in the FIFA World Cup and Olympic Games were also, at the time, new milestones for the national side.

When Japan defeated China PR to be crowned continental champions in 2004, that was the first AFC Asian Cup final not to feature Saudi Arabia for 24 years. This incredible stat is perhaps the best testament to how dominant the Green Falcons had been in the last part of the 20th century.

Three months to go: The search for the ultimate AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™ Superfan starts now!

Kuala Lumpur: The three-month countdown to the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™ has begun and to celebrate the thrilling road to the highly anticipated showpiece scheduled to kick off on 12 January 2024, the AFC has launched its latest initiative, the Superfan contest, to reward the ultimate AFC Asian Cup™ fan with exclusive prizes and experiences.

The contest is open to all football fans across the Continent and beyond. Participants can now submit their entries on www.the-afc.com/superfan or the AFC LIVE app to join the contest. Entrants can sign up on the website and app to submit their contest entry, which must consist of a one-minute video explaining why they are the ultimate AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™ Superfan. Submissions will close on 26 October 2023.

Kuala Lumpur: Tickets for the most eagerly anticipated Continental celebration of Asian football – the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™ – are now available online for purchase. Following the historic group stage performance by Asian teams at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, the focus of passionate fans across the globe will return to Qatar from 12 January to 10 February, 2024.

Spectators can book seats for any of the 51 matches that will take place in Qatar, which includes the opening and final matches at Lusail Stadium – an 88,000-seat venue that hosted the final match of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.
