Jesus Casas takes charge of Iraq

Baghdad: The Iraqi Football Association announced on Sunday the appointment of Jesus Casas as the men's national team head coach.

Spaniard Casas, who has signed a four-year contract, replaces Radhi Shenaishil who was recently appointed as the national U-23 head coach.

Shenaishil had temporarily assumed the senior team position following Iraq's fourth placed finish in Group A of the AFC Asian Qualifiers - Road to Qatar™.

Japan's Nakayama ruled out of Qatar 2022 with injury

Tokyo: Japan full-back Yuta Nakayama will miss the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 after suffering a season-ending Achilles injury while playing for English side Huddersfield Town, the club said.

Nakayama was named in Japan's 26-man squad for Qatar on Tuesday and was expected to start in their Group E games against Germany, Costa Rica and Spain.
