Abu Dhabi: Head coach Vital Borkelmans has declared that he is not concerned by who Jordan will be playing in the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 Round of 16, insisting instead that he is fully focused on his side’s final Group B fixture against Palestine.
With one match still to play, Jordan have already been confirmed as group winners following a flying start to the tournament, one which has seen them record successive wins against Australia and then Syria.
Quarter-finalists in 2004 and 2011, Jordan are set to make a third appearance in an AFC Asian Cup knockout phase, although Borkelmans is adamant that he is looking no further than Tuesday’s encounter at Abu Dhabi’s Al Nahyan Stadium.

Al Ain: New coach Fajr Ebrahim is confident his long-standing relationship with several members of Syria’s AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 squad can help in their quest for victory over Australia on Tuesday as they seek to secure a place in the knockout rounds.
Ebrahim has taken over from Bernd Stange, who was fired following Syria’s 2-0 loss at the hands of Jordan in the second round of matches in Group B, and he is confident he can oversee an immediate upturn in the team’s fortunes when his team take on the Socceroos at Khalifa bin Zayed Stadium on Tuesday evening.
“We have our own plans and we don’t feel any fear,” said Ebrahim. “We just feel the spirit of the challenge.
“The positive thing is that I worked with the team during the qualification process, so I'm not a new head coach. I was training the team and I know most of the players, some of them for nearly 10 years, and I worked with them since they were junior players."

Al Ain: After just two games into the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019, Jordan’s Mousa Suleiman Al Tamari is emerging as one of the stars of the tournament, with his game-changing performances helping Vital Borkelmans’ side secure their place in the Round of 16.
The Jordanians have impressed in their opening two matches, notching up wins over defending champions Australia and a Syria side that narrowly missed out on booking a berth at last year’s FIFA World Cup Finals.
Al Tamari has been instrumental in his team’s showing, scoring with an instinctive finish to give Jordan the lead on Thursday against Syria while also playing a key role in his side’s other two goals over the first two match days.

Al Ain: Jordan coach Vital Borkelmans could barely suppress his delight as he celebrated his team’s progress to the knockout rounds of the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 on Thursday, with the Belgian claiming happiness has been key to his squad’s impressive performances so far.
Borkelmans’ team secured a 2-0 win over Syria in Al Ain that guaranteed the Jordanians a top two finish in Group B, having already opened their 2019 campaign with an impressive 1-0 win over defending champions Australia.
Those results mean Jordan will finish no lower than second in the group no matter what happens in the remaining matches and the country will advance to the knockout rounds of the AFC Asian Cup for the third time since making their debut at the competition in 2004.

Dubai: Nathmi Albadawi remains hopeful of helping Palestine to a first ever appearance in the AFC Asian Cup knockout stage, after a 3-0 loss to Australia dealt a significant blow to their campaign on Friday.
Swept aside by the holders at Rashid Stadium, the Palestinians dropped to the bottom of Group B and now must look towards Tuesday's clash against already-qualified Jordan in the knowledge that only a win will suffice.
But despite the enormity of the task before them, Albadawi declared his side's campaign well and truly alive.

Dubai: Australia head coach Graham Arnold gave his charges a resounding tick of approval, but insists there is still plenty of room for improvement after they revived their AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 knockout stage hopes with a consummate 3-0 win over Palestine.
Early goals from Jamie Maclaren and Awer Mabil got the ball rolling for the defending champions, before Apostolos Giannou came off the bench to add a layer of gloss to the scoreline in the final moments.
Australia's showing was a vast improvement from their 1-0 Matchday One defeat to Jordan, with the the inclusion of Chris Ikonomidis and Jackson Irvine paying instant dividends for Arnold's men.
Speaking after the match, Arnold paid tribute to his side, but warned that he expects their performances to become even stronger as the tournament goes on.
