Alharbi: Saudi Arabia squad now at desired level

Chonburi: : Saudi Arabia topped Group C of the AFC U17 Asian Cup™ Thailand 2023 with a perfect record, but head coach Abdulwahab Nasser Alharbi was more pleased that he was afforded the luxury of rotating his players.

The two-time AFC U16 Championship winners scored seven goals and conceded none on route to topping their group. Qualifying for the knockout stage after their second match against Australia enabled Alharbi to give several players their chance in the starting lineup.

Group C: Saudi Arabia stay perfect

Chonburi: Saudi Arabia closed their AFC U17 Asian Cup™ Thailand 2023 group stage with maximum points after a 3-0 win over China PR at the Chonburi Uta Stadium on Thursday.

Saudi Arabia, who had already confirmed their spot in the quarter-finals after consecutive 2-0 wins in Group C,  will meet the Group D runners-up next.

Twice-champions China PR, who drew 1-1 with Tajikistan and lost 5-3 to Australia, ended their 2023 campaign with their heads held high after giving their all in their matches.

Group C: Australia defeat Tajikistan to advance

Bangkok: Australia beat Tajikistan 2-0 at the Rajamangala Stadium to book a place in the AFC U17 Asian Cup™ Thailand 2023 quarter-finals on Thursday.

With already-qualified Saudi Arabia defeating China PR 3-0 in the other group fixture, Australia finished runners-up and will meet the Group D winners in the knockout stage.

Bangkok: Bidding for a record-extending fourth title, head coach Yoshiro Moriyama wants his Japan side to conclude their AFC U17 Asian Cup™ Thailand 2023 Group D campaign with a win against India on Friday.

Following a stalemate in their opening game against Uzbekistan, Japan handed Vietnam a 4-0 defeat on Matchday Two and only need a draw against India to seal their quarter-final berth. 
 
For India, a win is essential to keep their hopes of advancing to the next round alive as they go into the tie with only a point to their name.
