Shirai: Japan yet to reach their full potential

Bali: Japan have made their way into the semi-finals of the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup™ Indonesia 2024 without losing a game but head coach Sadayoshi Shirai believes his side can improve further.

The four-time AFC U-16 Women’s Championship winners defeated Australia 4-1 in their second Group B match on Friday to book their place in the last four. Japan, who beat Thailand on Matchday One, will meet fellow semi-finalists China PR on Monday to determine who tops the group.

Group B: Australia 1-4 Japan

Bali: Japan became the third team to qualify for the semi-finals of the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup™ Indonesia 2024 when they defeated Australia 4-1 in their Group B tie at the Captain 1 Wayan Dipta Stadium on Friday.

The four-time AFC U-16 Women’s Championship winners' triumph meant China PR also advanced, with DPR Korea having also booked their spot from Group A. 

The last semi-finalist will be decided between Korea Republic and the Philippines in their Group A match on Sunday.

Bali: China PR claimed their second straight win at the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup™ Indonesia 2024 with a resounding 3-0 win over Thailand to book their semi-final spot on Friday. 

China PR's last four spot was confirmed after Japan defeated Australia 4-1 later on Friday, with both teams to square off on Monday to decide the Group B winners.

Bali: Korea Republic showed clinical finishing in their 12-0 win over Indonesia in their AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup™ Indonesia 2024 Group A match, with Kwon Da-eun confident the East Asian side have turned a corner in the tournament.

Bali: Head coach Kim Eun-jung heaped praise on her players after Korea Republic secured their first win in Group A of the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup™ Indonesia 2024 on Thursday to reignite their hopes of reaching the semi-finals.

Eight players got on the scoresheet in a 12-0 win with captain Won Ju-eun starring with a quadruple of goals, a result which gives Korea Republic the advantage heading into their decider against Philippines on Sunday.

Bali: Despite DPR Korea’s second convincing Group A outcome at the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup™ Indonesia 2024, head coach Song Sung Gwon was not overly satisfied with the way his side performed in their 6-0 win over the Philippines on Thursday.

The win sealed DPR Korea’s spot in the semi-finals with a match to spare but Song believes his team can play even better, with the victory against the Philippines following their 7-0 defeat of Korea Republic on Matchday One. The East Asian side meet hosts Indonesia in their final group match on Sunday.
