Cikarang: Vietnam ensured they will begin their AFC U-19 Championship Indonesia 2018 campaign with a spring in their step, defeating China PR 1-0 in their final pre-tournament tune up on Sunday.
A second-half goal from Nham Manh Dung was enough to settle the tie at Wibawa Mukti Stadium in Vietnam's favour, as the Southeast Asians prepare to chase a second successive appearance at the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
After a tight and tense first half, the game opened up somewhat in the second, with the 18-year-old finding space to give the Southeast Asians a 64th minute lead.
China PR, fresh from recent wins over Thailand and Indonesia, searched for a way back into the contest late on, but Vietnam held firm to keep a clean sheet and earn a confidence-boosting win.

Kuala Lumpur: Two late goals helped the United Arab Emirates record a 2-0 friendly win over Malaysia on Saturday as both sides concluded their preparations ahead of next week’s AFC U-19 Championship.
After a 1-1 draw between the two nations on Wednesday, the Emiratis struck first at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi when Ali Saleh Amro opened the scoring in the 71st minute.
With the game drawing to a close, Kelantan defender Syaiful Alias put through his own net on 89 minutes to compound Malaysia’s woes and hand the UAE a distinct boost ahead of their continental campaign in Indonesia.
The West Asians will begin their AFC U-19 Championship title bid with a Group A game against regional rivals Qatar on October 18, while Malaysia are set to face Saudi Arabia in their Group D opener two days later.

Jakarta: AFC U-19 Championship 2018 hosts Indonesia survived a late Jordan rally to record a 3-2 friendly win over their West Asian visitors on Saturday.
The result saw Indonesia record their first victory in four outings to hand themselves a major boost ahead of next week’s continental gathering, although the late goals his side conceded may be of some concern to head coach Indra Sjafri.
After a cautious start to proceedings at the Wibawa Mukti Stadium in Cikarang, Indonesia gradually gained a degree of control and should have gone ahead on 40 minutes when a sliding Rafli Mursalim somehow failed to convert Saddil Ramdani’s inviting cross from close-range.
