Gold Coast: Mark Torcaso is confident that his Philippines side are up for another big challenge in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026™ when they take on Korea Republic in their second Group A match on Thursday.

Defeat against Australia in their opener on Sunday has not dampened the team’s spirits and the 44-year-old was encouraged by the gritty display in the narrow 1-0 loss against the Matildas, vowing that supporters can expect more of the same.

Philippines’ Guy grateful for #WAC2026 opportunity

Gold Coast: It has been a whirlwind past few months for Jael-Marie Guy, who received her first senior call-up to the Philippines national team last November.

Fast-forward to Sunday, the United States-based forward found herself coming on at the start of the second half in their AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026™ tie against Australia, in front of a 44,379-strong crowd – the highest ever attendance in the competition’s history.

The substitute appearance was only Guy’s sixth cap, having made her debut during December’s SEA Games, where her irrepressible performances played a part in convincing Mark Torcaso to include her in the squad Down Under.

Sydney: Ante Milicic was delighted to see China PR make a positive start to their AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026™ campaign, registering a 2-0 win against plucky Bangladesh in their Group B tie on Tuesday.

In a match which the East Asian side dominated with close to 60 percent possession and 24 attempts, Milicic admitted there were nerves at play as first half strikes from Wang Shuang and Zhang Rui settled the contest.
