Vitoria: Argentina ended Tajikistan's FIFA U-17 World Cup Brazil 2019 campaign with a 3-1 win in Group E action at the Estádio Kléber Andrade on Sunday.

Tajikistan put up a brave fight but Argentina proved too strong as the South Americans finished runners-up behind Spain on goal difference to advance to a Round of 16 meeting with Group F winners Paraguay.

Tajikistan, the AFC U-16 Championship Malaysia 2018 runners-up, ended their campaign with one win and two defeats.

Group D: Japan go through in style

Vitoria: Jun Nishikawa struck in the 83rd minute as Japan defeated Senegal 1-0 at the Estádio Kléber Andrade on Saturday to book their FIFA Under-17 World Cup Brazil 2019 knockout stage spot.

The result meant Japan finished as Group D winners ahead of previously undefeated Senegal, with the Asian champions having defeated Netherlands 3-0 and drawn 0-0 with USA.

Japan will play the runners-up from either Group B, E or F in the last 16 on Wednesday.

Vitoria: Paik Sang-hoon's goal just 51 seconds into the match helped Korea Republic defeat Chile 2-1 and seal a place in the FIFA U-17 World Cup Brazil 2019 Round of 16 on Saturday.

The result at the Estádio Kléber Andrade meant Korea finished as Group D runners-up on six points behind France and will face Angola in their last 16 tie on Tuesday.

Brasilia: Noah Botic scored twice to ignite Australia's FIFA U-17 World Cup Brazil 2019 hopes in a 2-1 win against five-time champions Nigeria on Friday.

The victory means Australia finish third in Group B, behind Nigeria and Ecuador, and advance to the Round of 16 as one of the four best third-place finishers, having secured four points.

Australia had opened their campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Ecuador before playing to a 2-2 draw with Hungary.

Vitoria: Tajikistan found Spain's strikers too hot to handle as the Central Asians fell to a 5-1 defeat in their FIFA U-17 World Cup Brazil 2019 Group E tie at the Estádio Kléber Andrade on Thursday.

Tajikistan went into the match buoyant after having opened their campaign with a 1-0 win over African champions Cameroon but Spain were on top from the start to register their first triumph of the tournament, having settled for a 0-0 draw with Argentina on Matchday One.

Vitoria: 12 years ago Tajikistan took part in their first, and up until this year, only FIFA U-17 World Cup. In 2007 in Korea Republic, they secured a 4-3 win over USA in their opening match, and despite two 1-0 defeats after that by Belgium and Tunisia, they still managed to create history by making it into the Round of 16 as one of the best third-placed teams.

History may be in line to repeat itself here in Brazil, with the Asian team opening their Group E campaign with a shock 1-0 win over African champions Cameroon on Monday.

The win places Tajikistan top of Group E after a thrilling Matchday One, which saw Spain and Argentina play to a goalless draw in the day's earlier match.

Tajikistan will be aiming to continue their fine form when they play Spain next.
